  • Distance ~3.2km
  • Duration: 40 minutes
  • Perfect for: A lunch break or quick catch-up with a colleague.

From Adapt, it’s only a short stroll to the Grand Union Canal, where a gentle loop along the flat towpath offers a welcome break from the day. The route winds past narrowboats and waterfowl, with shaded stretches that feel far removed from the bustle of the office.

Heading west, you’ll venture to the historic Cowley Lock with its characterful lock-keeper’s cottages before turning back towards your starting point. In less than 40 minutes, you’ll be back at your desk, recharged by the calming presence of ducks, herons, and other canal-side wildlife, and uplifted by a peaceful, traffic-free walk just steps from work.

2. Extended Canal & Brunel Loop

  • Distance ~5km
  • Duration: 1 hour
  • Perfect for: Those with a longer lunch or finishing early for the day.

This circular walk expands on the Lunchtime Canal route, offering a little more variety without taking much more time.

After reaching Cowley Lock, cross to the opposite bank and follow the towpath north, passing the leafy back entrances of Brunel University and stretches of riverside woodland as the water leads you back towards Uxbridge.

The loop finishes at Waterloo Road, from where you return to the site along Hillingdon Road. Along the way, you’ll enjoy fresh perspectives of the canal, glimpses of Brunel’s grounds, and the satisfaction of a true circuit that makes for an ideal break in the middle of your day.

  • Duration: 3 hours, 45 minutes
  • Perfect for: A leisurely challenge with colleagues or friends.

For a full taste of Uxbridge’s countryside, this circular walk is for you.

Starting from Adapt, it links several scenic trails, including the Celandine Route, the Hillingdon Trail, the London Loop, and the Colne Valley Trail.

The route meanders through riversides, open fields, and charming woodlands before returning along the Grand Union Canal. Along the way, you’ll experience a rich variety of landscapes, enjoy expansive countryside surprisingly close to Greater London, and find the perfect opportunity for a weekend reset or a refreshing team-building day.
